I started burlesque in 2016 when Bombshell Burlesque Academy was based at Metro Arts on Edward Street, Brisbane City. Commencing burlesque classes and performances was not planned or expected.
My first term at BBA was with the iconic Jacqueline Furey. Throughout the term I never imagined I would go through with the performance, right up until the night before. I didn’t want to have any regrets, and I knew that if I could get through the performances, then I really could achieve anything.
I was so elevated and proud of myself after this, my first show. And not just that, I felt so incredibly privileged to be part of a community that encouraged, supported, and gave confidence to so many women (at this stage, women).
I have continued to enrol in terms and perform up until now, when I can. I’m not sure what my count is on performances, but I have performed in countless shows over the years. I keep coming back and will continue to do so.
My first solo was a tribute to Ginger from “Gilligan’s Island”. I love a good narrative based performance as this one was, and a bit of parody as well!
