FAQs
Okay, what is this site for?
Burlesque Registry is a public directory for the burlesque community. It started as a way to bring back the spirit of an older pre-2020 burlesque name registry, where performers could see what names were already in use and where people were based.
The new version goes further: performers, shows, troupes, festivals, educators, casting calls, city hubs, and the Name Exchange all live here so people can find each other and keep community information easier to reference.
Okay, who are you/who runs this?
Burlesque Registry is run by Hans Ferdinand, a performer and producer based out of Austin, Texas. Hans is a founder of Turducken Produckens, which has produced acclaimed shows like Die Harder: A Burlesque Adventure and Spanksgiving, Austin's premiere local talent burlesque festival. Hans is also the creator of Monday Night Burlesque, a production aimed at giving new performers time on stage alongside experienced performers.
Why do I need to register an account?
Accounts let you create and manage registrations. If you need to update your performer profile, show details, troupe page, educator listing, festival information, or casting call, log in and use the edit tools available on records you own or manage.
How much does it cost to register?
Nothing. Registering performers, shows, troupes, educators, festivals, and casting calls is free.
I can't log in to my account
Go to the login page and use the forgot password link. Enter the email address on your account and you'll receive a password reset email. If you used the old Burlesque Registry before the rebuild, your old username may still work for login, but password reset will use the email address attached to the account.
Why do I need a photo to register a performer?
Photos help people know who they are looking at, help performers market themselves, and reduce spam or low-effort registrations. The site also compresses uploaded images so large photos do not slow the directory down as much.
Why did the site change?
The older site had issues with saving names, performance, and missing functionality. This rebuild is meant to preserve the registry idea while making room for the features people actually need: better profiles, city hubs, troupes, show casts, casting calls, educator listings, festivals, and better admin tools.
How do I find people by troupe, city, tag, or something else?
Use the main search, the directory search fields, tag filters, and city hubs. City hubs collect performers, shows, troupes, and past activity for a city or area. The near-me buttons can also help find local performers, shows, troupes, educators, and casting calls.
Can I register a troupe?
Yes. Troupe registrations can include a name, images, description, members, managers, and affiliated shows. Troupe managers can add or remove members and can elevate other managers.
Can I post a casting call?
Yes. Casting calls can be posted directly on Burlesque Registry, and producer tools such as GlitterDesk can also publish public casting calls to the registry. Casting calls can include location, deadline, requested act types, requirements, pay details if public, and a link to apply.
Do you sell my data?
Absolutely not. The registry is a public directory, so public listing information is visible to other people and may appear in public feeds. Private account information, such as login details and private account emails, is not sold.
Someone else has registered my name!
Burlesque Registry is not an adjudicator of performer names. It is a community directory, not a legal ownership system. While it may be in bad taste to knowingly use someone else's name, the registry cannot settle every naming dispute.
Someone registered a name or listing to bully or harass me
Please reach out. The registry will not adjudicate ordinary name disputes, but if the site is being used maliciously, abusively, or for harassment, action may be taken at the site owner's discretion.
Can other websites use Registry data?
Yes, the registry has public and partner feeds for public listing data. These are meant for things like city burlesque pages, community resources, and production tools. Private account data is not included in public feeds.
How can I help support the registry?
Feedback is incredibly helpful. If something looks broken, outdated, confusing, or missing, send a note here. Good vibes, useful bug reports, and that rhinestone you found on the floor are also accepted in spirit.
