2012-2013, The Carolina Burlesque Festival is out of a long hiatus and ready to bloom with a nod to history and legends , preservation of the art, education, and performance.
Longtime festival and show producer Selia d'Katzmeow and other amazing and forward-thinking lovers of burlesque have been re-imagining this would-be/could-be, was-and-has-been Festival. The original Carolinas Burlesque Festival lasted only two years (2012-2013) due to irreconcilable differences between the two founders (namely believing a safe space does not equal p0litics, but art IS p0litical and burlesque should be a safe space - sad but true this was the issue for full transparency). We are and have been carefully approaching this, and aim to be better than ever imagined while holding space for the super awesome parts that were. This history unique along with the ever famous and fun "Heavy Rebel Weekender WIGGLE ROOM BURLESQUE SHOWCASE & PAGEANT (ran by d'Katzmeow for over a decade ceased in 2022), and with a budding and bright burlesque population in The Carolinas -
we burlesque educators, performers, lovers of the art, history, and with preservation in mind - BRING YOU A TRULY UNIQUE 'FESTIVAL'
We would love to see ALL CAROLINA performers at the fest and hope that this will continue into a tradition of a reunion of sorts. This is for US. Some come represent your self, your talent, your town, your troupe - what ever!
